I've been meaning to write up some things that are too long-form for Mastodon, but the WordPress editing experience has gotten quite bad in the past few years and there are also some technical aspects with it that kept bugging me (mainly that rendering math shouldn't be as difficult as they make it and in particular it shouldn't pull in JS to do it in the browser with noticeable delay).
Also, since there are no interactive elements here, this should really just be a static page instead of a PHP application that represents an unnecessary security risk.
I've looked into a bunch of static site generators, but found all of them disappointing. In particular, none of them really had the things I wanted:
- KaTeX "server-side" rendering
- Thumbnails/inline gallery elements without loads of boilerplate
So I finally convinced myself that this is a yak worth shaving and wrote a crappy one myself. This is the result. I tried not to break any links to existing posts, but I wanted to revamp the RSS feed relative to what WordPress has been doing so there probably will be some duplicate posts in feed readers that have been subscribed to the old feed. Sorry about that.
